Ask ';why'; questions. or ';what did you do today'; Then talk back to them. Let them answer and then answer your own question or comment on what they said. Pretend like they are sitting next to you and not online.
say how was school or work? or what did you do today? how was your week? what did you do this weekend? then talk about what you did
